Privacy Policy — Amsel
Amsel ("the extension") helps you create GitHub issues by voice. This policy explains what it does with your data.
Last updated: 17 June 2026
Part 1 — The Extension
1. What we collect and store
- Settings you enter — target repository, GitHub personal access token, speech language, and the optional "append text", "attach URL", and "attach screenshot" toggles. These are stored locally on your device (
chrome.storage.local) and are never sent to us or any third party. - Audio you record is converted to text entirely on your device using a local speech-recognition model. The audio is never uploaded and is discarded after transcription.
2. What leaves your device
- To GitHub (api.github.com): the transcribed text (as the issue title/body), and — only if you enable it — the active tab's URL and/or a screenshot of the visible page. These are sent using the token you provide, to the repository you configure. If you enable screenshots, the image is committed to a separate branch (
voice-issue-assets) in that repository so it can be displayed. - To Hugging Face (huggingface.co): a one-time download of the speech-recognition model files. No personal data is included in these requests.
3. What we do NOT do
- We do not run any server, account, or analytics. The developer never receives your data.
- We do not sell, share, or transmit your data to anyone other than the services above, which act on your direct instruction.
4. Your control
- Remove all stored data by uninstalling the extension (or clearing it in the extension's storage).
- Revoke access any time by deleting the GitHub token in your GitHub settings.

7. Legal bases
Where you have consented to processing, we process your personal data on the basis of Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (and § 25(1) TDDDG where the consent covers storing or accessing information on your device). Consent can be withdrawn at any time. Where data is needed to perform a contract or pre-contractual measures, we rely on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR; to meet a legal obligation, on Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR; and otherwise on our legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
8. Storage period
Unless a more specific period is stated above, your personal data stays with us until the purpose for processing no longer applies. If you make a valid request for deletion or withdraw your consent, your data is deleted unless we have other legally permissible grounds to keep it (e.g. statutory retention periods); in that case it is deleted once those grounds cease.
9. Inquiry by email or phone
If you contact us by email or phone, your inquiry and all associated personal data (name, request) is stored and processed by us to handle your request. We do not share this data without your consent. Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if your inquiry relates to a contract, otherwise on our legitimate interest in handling inquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). This data stays with us until you ask us to delete it, withdraw consent, or the purpose ceases — mandatory statutory retention periods excepted.
10. Your rights
- Access, correction, deletion: the right to free information about your stored data, its origin and recipients, and the purpose of processing, and to have it corrected or deleted.
- Restriction of processing: the right to request that processing be restricted (Art. 18 GDPR).
- Data portability: the right to have data we process based on your consent or to perform a contract delivered to you or a third party in a common, machine-readable format.
- Withdrawal of consent: you can withdraw any consent at any time with effect for the future; this does not affect prior processing.
- Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): where processing relies on Art. 6(1)(e) or (f) GDPR, you may object on grounds relating to your particular situation, including for direct marketing.
- Complaint: the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in your country of residence, workplace, or place of the alleged infringement.
11. Objection to promotional emails
We object to the use of contact data published under our legal-notice obligation for sending unsolicited advertising. We expressly reserve the right to take legal action in the event of unsolicited advertising, such as spam emails.
